What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis, or “being in trance”, is a way to describe feeling relaxed  and comfortable, it is the same as experiencing a guided meditation.  It is a natural state  of mind  that we go  in and  out of  many times every  day.  Think of a time when you realised  that your mind  had  drifted and you came  back to realisation, maybe you were driving and lost track of time passing or you were day dreaming while in  work,  you   were  in a  trance  state,  an  alpha or theta brain  wave  which  is .just  a relaxed  state before sleep.  You can  hear  what  I’m  saying  and  aware of  everything going on  around  you. The only difference when you’re under hypnosis is that you feel calm and relaxed, and are more open to suggestions.

Do I lose control while hypnotised?

Many  people  worry  that  they will be  manipulated  because they  see stage  hypnosis  on T.V.   This experience is nothing like that. Hypnosis is not putting you to sleep; it’s putting your nervous system in a relaxed state. This  means  that  even  though you  remain  fully  aware of  everything  going   on around you, you are not distracted by conscious thought. As a result, you can turn your attention inward. I cannot get you to do anything in trance that you would not do otherwise.

How many sessions will I need?

Most times,  one  session  is all  that you need, but it can  take  several sessions to overcome deeply ingrained habits, beliefs or traumas. Freeing yourself from blockages is like peeling the skin away on an onion, removing a layer can reveal something  else that needs to be dealt with. The 21 day recording carries on the therapeutic process. The answer to this question depends very much on each individual case. I can advise better on how many sessions you might need during our initial consultation.

Are results guaranteed?

No professional will guarantee results and a lot of the success depends on you, it is very important to follow   the  process  and  keep  listening  to  the  transformation  audio  for  at  least    21  days,  it   is deliberately  tailored to  rewire  your  very  personal  blocks.  If you commit to the process there is no reason why you wouldn’t see results. All my clients to date have achieved results, check out my testimonials.

How will I feel afterwards?

It is normal to feel relaxed and perhaps slightly sleepy for the first few minutes. Many clients have commented on how happy they feel and they are glowing because a huge weight has lifted. They feel liberated and empowered because they  realise that  something  significant has happened.  You may feel  a tingling  sensation in  your body, a sense of reflectiveness, possibly quite emotional or an incredible surge of energy. Everyone is different. Clients often tell me they experience additional insights and revelations in the days and weeks following their RTT session, this is very normal. In a few cases clients have experienced migraines after the session so it’s important to hydrate before and after. When energy shifts in the body we can have many different reactions but this is all part of the healing process.

Who do you work with?

I work with anyone who is committed to change. I see a large number of clients from any walk in life who  are  struggling  to  move  forward for any  number of reasons,  such  as  relief  from stress  and anxiety, a lack of confidence or low self-esteem, insomnia, phobias, addictions, imposter syndrome,  exam or  work  related  pressures, trauma  or toxic  relationships, weight issues,  overcoming  a fear of public speaking,    dealing  with  medical   conditions  such   as   endometriosis,  IBS,  tinnitus,  fertility  issues, migraines,  to  improve sport  performance.  RTT  can help  any  mental, emotional or  physical  problem.   The commitment to  have a  session must be yours,  it can’t be your partner’s or parents  wishes. I cannot work with anyone who has epilepsy or who is prone to seizures because going into an alpha brain wave can trigger seizures.

What if I can’t be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we go into throughout the day. It is literally just when you turn off the mental chatter so you have already experienced this, probably without realising it. Everyone is different, so some people will go into hypnosis more easily and deeper than others. How quickly or deeply you go into this relaxed state has no bearing on the success of the treatment.

Why do I need to listen to my audio recording for 21 days?

It is so important to listen to the recording, it is an integral part of the therapy. The session is when you unearth the root cause of your issue and experience that ‘AH-HA’ moment and the recording is where you rewire the new beliefs. The mind learns through repetition. Think of a baby learning how to walk. They don’t stop practicing once they have figured out how to stand and take those first steps. Do you remember when you first learned to ride a bike? You kept practicing and practicing until you got it right. Olympic champions don’t quit training when they get gold medals. They carry on training to improve their skills and beat their own personal bests. This is no different to you working on changing your behaviour, repetition works to rewire your beliefs.

The science behind this is that neurons that fire together, wire together. Neurons associated with a certain activity form neural pathways that become stronger the more that activity is engaged in. By listening to the audio you are making sure the new neural pathways created during the hypnotherapy session are growing in strength. Think about how difficult it is to learn a new habit. It’s like learning how to ride a bike. It feels awkward and unfamiliar, but only in the beginning. The more you practice, the more comfortable it feels until you reach the point where it’s so easy and familiar you forget how it was not to be able to do so. On the other hand, nerves that fire apart, wire apart. The less an old activity is practiced, the weaker the neural pathways become.

There are different theories as to how long it takes for the brain to rewire, some say the minimum should be 21 days, other say at least up to 60 days. I suggest to clients that they continue listening to the audio past the initial 21-day period to continue strengthening that new neural pathway but 21 days is the minimum recommendation.

I don’t live in Cork, can you work with me?

RTT works just as well using Skype, Facetime, WhatsApp or Zoom as it does in person. All you need is a reliable internet connection and a quiet comfortable place away from any distractions. Most of my clients are on zoom. It is lovely to have a session in the comfort of your own home. I have had sessions in bed and drifted off to sleep afterwards. It cuts out all the hassle of traveling and it also means you can make an appointment from absolutely anywhere in the world.
